Yoshihide Suga is Japan’s new Prime Minister replacing Shinzo Abe

Yoshihide Suga has been elected as Japan’s new prime minister taking from Shinzo Abe by Japan’s parliament .

Wednesday’s voting confirmed him as new prime minister after winning leadership of the governing party this week.

Very close ally for Mr Shinzo Abe, Mr. Yoshihide Suga new PM is expected to extend his working in line with Mr. Abe’s policies.Shinzo Abe has resigned last month in response to his bad health.

On Wednesday, Mr Shinzo Abe have final cabinet meeting and updated reporters that he was proud of his achievements during his tenure around eight years in power.

Mr Yoshihide Suga have easily won vote for prime minister in the Diet. Diet have a coalition Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) holds a majority. He and new cabinet will take oath in ceremony endorsed by the emperor at the Imperial Palace.

Who is Yoshihide Suga?

Born as son of strawberry farmer and comes from a humble background which separates him different from many Japan’s political community.

71 year old have slow and steady growth in Japan political ranks. He was secretary for LDP Lawmaker before he starts his political career and in 1996 he became member in Diet.

2005 he taken as a cabinet minister under Junichiro Koizumi government and have gained influence in subsequent Abe cabinet.

He was known as Mr Abe’s right-hand man and gained reputation of being efficient and having practical approach with good leadership capabilities.

His one of his most prominent public appearances when he was unveiled name of the new Reiwa era during transition from Emperor Akihito to his son Naruhito in 2019.
