WhatsApp may soon get this new voice message feature

NEW DELHI: Facebook-owned WhatsApp recently added end-to-end encryption support for chat backups. The company is now planning to introduce a new feature for voice messaging functionality.
As reported by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp may soon get a Voice Transcription feature.
According to WABetaInfo, the Twitter account that tracks changes in WhatsApp build, the instant messaging app is developing a new voice transcription feature. This new WhatsApp feature will enable users to transcribe the contents of a voice message. Presently, the voice message transcription feature is only spotted for the iOS build of the app. WABetaInfo also suggests that the voice data will not be shared with Facebook as these messages will be transcribed by Apple.
“When a message is transcripted for the first time, its transcription is saved locally in the WhatsApp database, so it won’t be needed to transcript it again if you want to see its transcription later”, said WABetaInfo.
The report also adds that the feature is optional and will require special permission. WABetaInfo also revealed that this new voice transcription feature will help Apple in improving its speech recognition technology. Presently, there is no information about the official roll out of the feature as it is still in the developmental stage.
Last month, WhatsApp rolled out chat transfer support for Samsung’s new foldable phones, Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. The feature allows Apple iPhone users to move their WhatsApp history from iOS to Android on these phones. The Facebook-owned company has now expanded the support to more Samsung phones. It’s now available on Samsung devices running Android 10 or higher. However, WhatsApp has announced that the same will be available to other Android phone users too.
