One-third of UP districts have less than 100 active cases

LUCKNOW: As many as 28 or over one-third of the total 75 districts in Uttar Pradesh are left with less than 100 active Covid cases. Only two — including Lucknow (505) and Gorakhpur (516) — have more than 500 active cases, according to assessment of data in the state.
Data showed that 22 districts or (29% of the total) in the state have 100 to 200 active cases. Acknowledging the data, a state government official on Thursday said active cases have declined by over 96% since the peak of 3.10 lakh recorded on April 30.
“UP is left with less than 13,000 active cases (12,243 to be precise), which speaks for the success of the state’s strategy of trace, test and treat,” said additional chief secretary, information, Navneet Sehgal. He said, 642 new cases and1231 recoveries were recorded in the past 24 hours.
Data showed that UP’s recovery rate has surpassed 98% mark on account of the trend of falling new cases. Sehgal reiterated that despite the constant decline in the number of daily cases, the state has kept number of tests high. Over three lakh tests were conducted in the past 24 hours.
An official statement issued by the government claimed that UP is conducting far more tests than those prescribed by the World Health Organisation. “The testing protocol by the WHO translates into 32,000 tests per day for Uttar Pradesh, but state’s average is much more and together they add up to 5.25 crore tests till now,” it said.
It also added that UP’s test positivity rate has declined to 0.3% as on date. As many as 82 fatalities were reported on Thursday taking the total to 21,597.
