LUCKNOW: With the arrest of four persons, the Aashiana police on Friday busted a gang involved in committing thefts in liquor shops while using a vehicle fitted with a blue beacon.
The arrested men were identified as Deepak Kashyap, Rohit Kashyap, Mohit and Dileep Kumar.
Besides blue beacon, the recovered car had national emblem and Government of India embossed on it. Police also recovered 50 cartons of stolen liquor from different shops.
Assistant commissioner of police, Cantonment, Archana Singh, who led the operation, said Rohit was the mastermind of the gang.
“Mohit worked as a driver in a private institution where the car’s owner, said to be an assistant commandant in RPF, reportedly got his vehicle attached on contractual basis. We are verifying the details,” Singh said.
The gang members conducted a recce during day time using the government vehicle and targeted liquor shops located inside colonies during the night. “The gang members used to keep beacon light switched on to avoid checking by cops,” the ACP said, adding that the accused were involved in theft at liquor shops in Aashiana and Thakurganj.
