Free Windows 11 update: here’s how to get it

Microsoft brings you its Windows 11 final build. After a month of continuous release of multiple Windows 11 builds in Dev and Beta channels of Insider Preview and improving upon features and design, Microsoft has finally brought Windows 11 for users.
Before the official launch of Windows 11 on October 5, the preview build seems to be the final version of Windows 11. The final build is available for the Window Insider users, all they have to do is switch from Dev or Beta to Preview on Windows 10. This will lead the user to get a free copy of Windows 11 operating system before the official release.
An ISO — 22000.194 — of the final build has also been released by Microsoft for Windows 11 on the Windows Insider website. Users who wish to clean install Windows 11 operating system on their PC, can head to the website and download the ISO.
How to get Windows 11 preview build:

  • The first thing any user who wishes to install Windows 11 preview needs to do is check the PC for compatibility. Users can either check the compatibility by reading through the minimum requirements or can simply download the Microsoft PC Health Check app. The app will run a check through the system configurations and will provide the required information.

  • If the configuration matches the requirement, then next, you will be required to enrol into the Windows Insider program.

  • To do this, head to Settings on your Windows 10 PC -> Update & Security -> Windows Insider Program.

  • Once you have done that, you need to click on the Get Started button and link the Microsoft account that you are currently using with Windows 10.

  • After doing this, Windows 10 will prompt you to choose the channel, select Release Preview Channel and confirm.

  • Now, you need to restart your system.

  • Once the restart is complete, head to the Settings -> Update and Security

  • Here you will see a new banner named Windows 11 update.

  • Hit the Download and install option and follow on-screen instructions to install windows 11.

  • Once the installation is complete, head to Settings -> Update & Security again and choose the option ‘Stop getting updates’.

This step is not compulsory, but this will ensure that the user will no longer receive future Windows Insider updates being released in the preview ring and helps you to remain on the final build of Windows 11.
Now in case the user wishes to clean install Windows 11, download the ISO file and create a bootable USB using Microsoft Media Creation Tool or third-party software such as Rufus.
