Explosion in fireworks godown kills 5 in UP

BIJNOR: At least five people were killed in an explosion in a fireworks godown in a village in UP’s Bijnor district on Thursday.
Four others were injured in the incident that took place at Bakshiwala village in the morning.
Manager of the factory, Mohd Yusuf, has been arrested.
Police also revealed that the factory was valid and licence was issued till 2025. District administration, however, downplayed the incident. Speaking on the Thursday incident, DM Bijnor Ramakant Pandey said, “There was no explosion and only fire took place because of the presence of some inflammable material. Besides, there are five casualties but no one got injured seriously. The godown had valid license to operate until 2025.”
According to SP Bijnor, “All bodies have been sent for postmortem and investigations are on to ascertain the reason of the fire. ” All deceased were workers in the godown. Earlier in February 2016, 6 people were charred to death and other six injured in an explosion in a firecracker shop at Chandpur town in Bijnor district. The blast was so powerful that three buildings collapsed in the incident.
