BJP against concept of social justice: Akhilesh Yadav

LUCKNOW: Joining opposition parties in attacking the BJP at the Centre for saying no to a caste census, Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said it was primarily because the government does not want to give the Other Backward Castes (OBCs) their due on the basis of their population ratio.
“The BJP government has refused to entertain the growing demand of the OBCs to get a caste census done. This has only established that the saffron brigade does not want to offer the OBCs their due at par with their ratio in population. It proves that BJP is against the concept of social justice,” Akhilesh said.
The SP chief’s statement comes on a day when Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and the leader of opposition in Bihar Tejashwi Yadav wrote to the SP chief and 32 other politicians in a fresh push to the demand for a caste census. On Friday, BSP president Mayawati also attacked the BJP government for rejecting the idea of a caste census stating that it was “administratively difficult and cumbersome” process.
Earlier, Akhilesh had announced that he would get a caste census done on priority if SP is voted to power in 2022 assembly elections. He said BJP was out to deny the due to OBCs like they did to farmers. Akhilesh said the BJP was scared of getting a caste census done as it would prove that OBCs and Dalits are still among the most deprived in the country and the government was least bothered about their welfare.
He also attacked the government for the injustice being meted out to farmers across the country. “Their income has not been doubled as promised by BJP. On the contrary, prices of fuel and electricity have increased manifold eating into their profit margins,” he said.
