Active Covid cases fall below 1,000 mark in UP

LUCKNOW: After several months, the number of active Covid cases in Uttar Pradesh dropped below the 1,000 mark on Friday. As of Friday afternoon, the total number of active cases in UP were recorded at 994, while 61 new Covid cases were reported from across the state in past 24 hours.
Briefing media on Friday, additional chief secretary, health, Amit Mohan Prasad said that the positivity rate in the state has also dropped to the lowest and is now at 0.03%. He added that all through the pandemic since March 2020 the case positivity rate was around 2.7%.
Data from the government stated that 86 people recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours and that seven more districts had now become Covid free. It was also shared that 52 out of the total 75 districts had reported zero cases in the last 24 hours and 23 districts had reported Covid cases in single digits. The 61 new Covid cases included the highest 11 from Prayagraj and 10 from Lucknow.
“Even though the number of samples going for Covid testing is considerably dropping, UP is still testing the highest number of samples every day. In the last 24 hours we have tested over 2 lakh samples and over six crore samples from the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 until now. Even the number of vaccinations is highest from UP,” said ACS, health, Amit Mohan Prasad.
“On Thursday we completed over seven lakh vaccinations and have done over four crore vaccination doses so far, which is the highest in the country,” he added. The health official further said that there was no hesitancy towards vaccination in both rural and urban zones of the state which was a result of media awareness around the subject.
