450 oxygen plants functional, Yogi asks to expedite work

LUCKNOW: The state government on Sunday announced that Uttar Pradesh now has 450 functional oxygen plants across 75 districts and work on remaining sanctioned 150 oxygen plants is being carried out at a rapid pace.
Total 555 oxygen plants were sanctioned by the government during the second Covid-19 wave which hit the country during April and May. Of these, the government said 41 had been made operational in just 11 days.
Reviewing the Covid-19 situation across the state during a high-level meeting with senior officials, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, “Forty-one more oxygen plants have become functional in the last 11 days. The process of setting up remaining under-construction plants should be expedited.” Real-time monitoring of the installation work has been planned and administrative officials in districts have been asked to continuously monitor the progress of installation work of plants and ensure availability of raw material so that it can be completed on time.
Oxygen plants have also been mandatory in hospitals which have the capacity of more than 50 beds. Oxygen plants are also being installed in CHCs and PHCs across the state.
Before the second wave of coronavirus pandemic, only 25 oxygen plants were functional in UP. The government later decided to spruce up supply in the state.
Meanwhile, the state government said the Centre has also approved the establishment of PSA medical oxygen plants with funding from PM Cares Fund.
